Cockroach Aegis

Description

Rob Reid introduces Cockroach Aegis, an agentic framework designed to help database administrators operate, optimize, and troubleshoot large database estates. Setting up a local CockroachDB cluster on Kubernetes with intentionally misconfigured settings and a missing index, he shows how Aegis uses automated check-ins, internal memory, and custom alerts to detect issues and recommend fixes. Applying Aegis's index recommendation drastically lowers query latency from 35–40 ms to under 10 ms, and during a Chaos Mesh node-failure test, Aegis automatically triggers alerts, registers the node's recovery, and accurately summarizes the incident's timing and minimal workload impact.
