CockroachDB in Comparison Demos & Tutorials Performance

Description

How does a globally distributed database like CockroachDB fare against a globally distributed (or global tables) instance of AWS DynamoDB? Cockroach Labs Technical Evangelist Rob Reid put CockroachDB and DynamoDB to the test to answer this question. In this demo, Rob demonstrates a US-based user and an EU-based user both talking to their local instances for reads and writes, looks at the latency involved in replicating from one region to another, and what kinds of latencies you can expect to get as one user operating against a global database that's receiving writes from another region. Key takeaways - DynamoDB had low read write latencies when operating against the same region, but latencies would increase when you started to read and write to different regions. - CockroachDB is a true multi-region database. It allows users to pin data to regions, and there's no cross-region replication unless it is needed.
